Taking Stock: January 2016

Once again, I’ve decided to take stock of the month that’s come and gone. I first joined in two years ago after seeing it over on Meet Me At Mike’s and I’ve tried to remain committed ever since. However, I have cut out a few of the prompts since I found I couldn’t answer all of them every month. You can check out the original ‘taking stock’ and find a list if you wish to join in or simply see what others are up to. Let me know if you decide to take stock too!

Anyway, January has come and gone. The buzz of the new year has died down and people seem to be back to their usual routine. People went away on holidays and I thoroughly enjoyed the quietness that comes along with fewer people around. Last January I managed to fit in quite a few activities, but this year I’m starting off a bit slow and taking opportunities to rest. That said, I still managed to do one or two things to keep the little explorer in me satisfied.

Making: another attempt at a knitted blanket/throw. Third time’s the charm, right?

Cooking: roast vegetable and chickpea salad.

Reading: ‘1Q84’ by Haruki Murakami. Although I took a break from the book for a few weeks because I was nearing a particular scene and didn’t want to face it just yet.

Playing:Bang My Head‘ by David Guetta feat Sia and Fetty Wap, ‘All My Friends‘ by Snakehips feat Tinashe and Chance the Rapper, ‘In The Night‘ by The Weekend, and ‘Fast Car‘ by Tobtok feat River.

Enjoying: wandering around the City on sunny evenings.

Sorting: through my wardrobe and the bathroom for things no longer needed or used to donate.

Wondering: why I’ve felt so tired, despite getting enough hours of sleep.

Waiting: for the day that I can confidently remove my bandage.

Deciding: on my goals for 2016. It’s mainly centred around gardens and plants and all the green stuff. It’s going to be a good year.

Wishing: I knew where to start with the back yard…

Liking: all the home-grown herbs and vegetables that we’re able to grow at Hello HQ. And all in pots. It’s getting me excited about having a dedicated fruit and vegetable garden.

Disliking: all the stormy Sydney weather lately. I had to go out and see a client during a downpour and my shoes filled with water and only the top half of my body managed to stay dry.

Considering: getting my hair trimmed into a decent shape, but never getting around to it.

Watching: snippets of the Australian Open.

Marvelling: at how quickly my beloved little apple seed has grown into a plant. It is almost waist-high and it has only been four months!

Wanting: a private courtyard sprawling with plants to call my own. I have so much courtyard envy right now!

Needing: to eat more fruits and vegetables.

Following: quests in Skyrim to become a better mage and fulfil my destiny as dragonborn. Haha.

Noticing: that I might be developing a bit of a belly. Oops…

Knowing: I need to follow doctor’s orders on limiting how much I should do, but it’s hard to comply when I feel I could be doing more.

Thinking: about creating a dry creek/river bed.

Buying: honey produced by the bees at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, and the most amazing-smelling bar of soap for The Parents. Also, I bought three return tickets for Japan. Woo!

Getting: together with some friends for a good ol’ fashioned gaming night. Or two. Or more. It’s been fun catching up and relaxing with junk food and games.

Admiring: postcard perfect Sydney β€” the Harbour Bridge and Opera House, clear blue skies and sparkling deep blue water.

Hoping: to visit the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden.

Loving: my first ever trip to the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney. Such a vast amount of beautiful green space within the city. I’m all heart-eyed emojis for these gardens! (you can read about my visit here and here if you’re interested)

Giggling: or perhaps more accurately, laughing out loud with mates while watching Jimmy Carr ‘Funny Business’.

Planning: a trip to Japan. I can’t believe it’s finally happening.

Feeling: happy and content.

Thanks Dawn. Yes, I think it’s wonderful how, despite where we come from, we all can share similar experiences. Hope you’re enjoying the new year so far πŸ™‚

That’s still a lot for one month. Is skyrim like warcraft? I’m not up to date with these things anymore.

Glad you finally visited the Royal Botanic Gardens. What kept you? πŸ™‚

I’m not sure I’d say Skyrim is like Warcraft. Skyrim is a RPG rather than strategy game. It is similar to World of Warcraft in terms of exploration and completing quests, but then I’m not up-to-date myself with these things either.

And yes, I’m pretty glad I finally visited the Royal Botanic Gardens too! I’m not sure what kept me, but I’ve been back a few times (briefly) since then. They can’t keep me away now XD
