My friends and I originally planned to have dinner at another Japanese restaurant, but they were closed the night we ventured into the City. So after some deliberation, we decided to head to Kobe Jones Sydney instead. I had been there many years ago, when I was a younger and very different person. Not having been back in such a long time, we thought it would be nice to see if the place had changed since then as well.
The restaurant is pretty much as I remembered it. It’s well-decorated, dimly-lit and overlooks the harbour with both indoor and outdoor seating. Some sort of instrumental dance music plays softly in the background. It was fairly quiet when we went on Sunday, mostly couples with a few families.
We ordered the Zetaku (Luxury) Set Menu which set us back AU$129pp, plus we ordered some (non-alcoholic) drinks and two snacks. Maybe it was just a bit too much food for us, but definitely tasty. My friends really liked the Seafood Poke, closely followed by the Volcano Roll, which is as good as I remember from all those years ago (that sauce!). And of course, even on a full stomach, we couldn’t say no to dessert.
I definitely felt well-fed by the end of the meal. I almost didn’t finish my green tea creme brulee. Almost. I think Kobe Jones Sydney is a nice place to go if you want a fancy-ish dinner. I enjoyed my meal, and the service was good, but I’m not sure how often I’d eat here given how far I have to travel for it. Still, it was nice to re-visit.
