Taking Stock: January 2015

Has January gone? Well, that was quick, but at the same time it seemed to drag on a little. Does that make any sense? Probably not. Anyway, I didn’t realise until now that I’ve had quite a busy month. It’s been really good to get out (of the house and of my usual routine) and enjoy the Summer days and experience new things. Different and fun. A pretty good start to the new year, if I do say so myself.

Once again, I’ve decided to take stock of the month that’s come and gone. It’s something I started doing a year ago (yikes!) after seeing it over on Meet Me At Mike’s. There’s a list if you aren’t taking stock and would like to join in (please let me know if you do). I’ve personally cut out a few of the prompts that I struggled with last year. It’s a long list and I applaud you if you’re able to fill it out monthly. So, are you ready to see what I’ve been up to?

Making: a knitted red scarf. I’m down to my final skein of yarn and can almost taste the finish line.

Cooking: a Spicy Tomato and Bean Soup. Oh dang, it is so yum!

Reading: very little ‘1Q84’, and a lot of different blogs.

Playing:Real Love‘ by Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne (still), ‘Uptown Funk‘ by Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars (still), and ‘Pray to God‘ by Calvin Harris feat. HAIM.

Enjoying: my trip to the Sydney Aquarium with Super Boy. I had so much fun!

Sorting: out issues with Super Boy and being stronger and feeling more positive for it.

Wondering: about my social work skills. I’ve passed my one year anniversary at work and I’m not sure if I’ve been practising to high enough standards or if I’ve improved at all. Time for some serious reflecting.

Waiting: for a good time to head to IKEA and buy a few more pieces of furniture and some decorative bits and bobs for Hello HQ.

Deciding: on my goals for 2015 and feeling quite positive about the year ahead. I’m going to focus on growth and change this year.

Wishing: I could buy a cute terrace house to live in.

Liking: my first experience at the drive-in cinema. I’m not usually a cinema-goer, but I decided to step out of my usual routine and go. It was pretty good, and quite surprising how some people came prepared with deck chairs and blankets. Super Boy and I watched ‘Big Hero 6’. I almost teared-up.

Disliking: crappy drivers.

Considering: a complete bedroom make-over. But knowing it’s a want more than a need.

Watching: Tabac Rouge during the Sydney Festival 2015 and a little bit of the Australian Open.

Marvelling: at how little things, like brightly coloured nail polish, can brighten up your day.

Wanting: a magic wand so I can wave away all the mess in Hello HQ.

Needing: to start doing some exercises.

Wearing: dresses to work and being told that I look like a doll by one of my clients. Very sweet, and very awkward.

Following: advice on stepping outside of my comfort zone.

Noticing: how Super Boy actually calls me out on my shitty and negative behaviour and thoughts. It’s been very confronting and, at times, hard to swallow. But I’m thankful that he does this because I want to be a better person, so I need to take it on the chin and find ways to improve.

Knowing: I could achieve so much more if I had the motivation or inclination to. C’mon Sandy, time to get your life sorted!

Thinking: about my future and how best to support myself and my Parents.

Buying: some new items of clothing, a few second-hand books, some second-hand vessels, and my first ever Frankie magazine.

Getting: home envy.

Admiring: my own handiwork with installing two towel hooks for my bathroom. It’s such a small thing, but has made a big difference. I’m genuinely pleased with myself.

Hoping: to have a more organised and productive year.

Loving: my alphabet and numbers stamp set and my 2015 diary, both from kikki-k.

Giggling: with Super Boy about silly little random things.

Planning: to update my bathroom. Nothing major, just small changes to make it feel fresh and new.

Feeling: happy and grateful for the January I’ve had.
